paperflower86:

Last month I visited an exhibition showing the work of Lotte Reiniger, a German papercut artist and animator who made full feature length films with here stop motion silhouette technique. Her work is nothing short of amazing, especially considering that opposed to lots of other papercut artists she did all of it mostly freestyle with a regular pair of scissors.

Here’s a vid that shows Lotte Reiniger at work plus some scenes from her movies.

The exhibition itself was really excellent with lots of interactive elements, apart from viewing here papercuts and watching here movies there were little workstations were visitors could make their own papercuts and even animate them. It’s a permant exhibition so if you ever find yourself in the south of Germany and are interested in papercuts, visit the Stadtmuseum Tübingen /end plug

I did a short 30 second stop motion for animation once, can’t imagine how long it’d take to make a full feature length...
